About TU Wien

Technology for people

At TU Wien, we have been conducting research, teaching and learning under the motto "Technology for people" for over 200 years. TU Wien has evolved into an open academic institution where discussions can happen, opinions can be voiced and arguments will be heard.

Research, planning and teaching at TU Wien's Faculty for Architecture and Planning and its Institute of Spatial Planning consider space in its manifold physical, relational, geographic, economic, cultural and social dimensions. Interdisciplinarity, cooperation, practical planning and decision-making based on sound theoretical research, and the accumulation of planning knowledge, including the involvement of stakeholders – these are all essential characteristics of the Institute of Spatial Planning. Besides “classical” realms of planning such as local and regional planning and development, disciplines include spatial and technology-related fields in law and legal studies, social sciences, economics, transportation and mobility planning, computer sciences, and cultural studies.

The teaching activities of the Institute's staff are supplemented and enhanced by the recruitment of external experts as teaching associates, guest professors and guest lecturers. Moreover, the involvement of external teaching staff plays an essential role in strengthening international inter- and extra-university contacts and cooperation. The incorporation of new media in teaching activities is likewise being progressed.
